MY JOURNEY AS A PROSPECTIVE TEACHER: A REFLECTION

Image
It was always my dream to become a teacher and I worked all these two years to bring out the best in me. Joining a B.Ed college was entirely different from other colleges because here I was able to meet a very different version of me, striving to attain perfection in whatever I did. The first year in college was the most happy period of my personal life because I rediscovered the old school girl and her charm within me again as I participated in more stage performances and other creative activities. Apart from theoretically imbibing the academic materials,  I enjoyed the activity based sessions in our college and those moments indirectly showed us the passion and vibrancy that a teacher has to hold inside her. The second year brought out another version in me, where I became a teacher to a large community of students. Though I taught only in the two classes during my first and second phase internship, I was able to understand more and more students and I rejoiced each moment...

UNFOLDING CREATIVITY; A CLOSER LOOK AT THE INNOVATIVE WORKS OF PHASE 2 INTERNSHIP

Image
Innovative Works: An Overview  Increasingly, innovation in education at school is more than just a buzzword. It is fast becoming a way of learning and teaching for both students and teachers respectively. Innovation in education encourages students and teachers to research, explore, and use all the tools to uncover something new.  Innovation may be linked to positive changes in efficiency, productivity, quality, competitiveness and intellectual development. Through innovative work the teacher can improve students performance by providing group work opportunities and resources to innovate. It is necessary to create and nurture an environment of innovation. Description of my Innovative Works As a part of my teaching internship phase II, I prepared two innovative works that supported my students in getting a better understanding of the content selected along with generating interest and curiosity among learners. The first one was a working model spinning wheel which I name...

SECOND PHASE INTERNSHIP-WEEK 8

Image
This was the last and final week of our second phase teaching internship. The week also witnessed several important events associated with the co-curricular realm of the school. As I have planned earlier, I conducted my achievement test,  the Thursday of this week. On Wednesday,  I took approval from my mentor teacher regarding the same and after that, I printed question papers for the test to be given to the students. Majority of my students attended the test well. The time table for the Onam exam was also given on the same day. I have also completed the second prose lesson in the unit, 'The Little Round Red House ', by Caroline Bailey and there are only two short poems to be completed from the unit.  On the 4th and 5th of this week, the school conducted its Annual Sports Meet and it was like a celebration of the athletic spirit and talent of the students. We witnessed the competitions of different teams and the meet was altogether a new experience for us. August ...

SECOND PHASE INTERNSHIP- WEEK 7

Image
The first lesson of the unit was completed this week and along with that  I also conducted the post- test for my experimental and non-treatment control groups.  The School went through an auspicious ceremony this week, and a blessing and prayer session was arranged by the management. I missed my classes because of the same but I took some extra hours to complete my portions. And by the end of this week I finished my lessons templates but I began another prose lesson from the unit as I have around a week here in the school.  Things went well this week too and along with the school works,  I was able to complete my academic works during the free time I got.

SECOND PHASE INTERNSHIP- WEEK 6

Image
This week marked the commencement of the first mid- term examination at school and my mornings were spent in arranging questions for class V to X. I also took part in invigilation duties during the afternoon examination session.   Along with that,  I also continued teaching my students and this week,  we entered our second unit 'Wings and Wheels ', a unit devoted to travel and explorations. We began the chapter' A Shipwrecked Sailor ' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez which was an interesting experience to all the learners.  With the completion of the first unit, I also finished teaching vocabulary with the Frayer Model and I have to conduct a post-test for both the experimental and non-control group very soon.

SECOND PHASE INTERNSHIP- WEEK 5

I conducted my diagnostic test for VIII E  at the very beginning of this week. Students interestingly attended the exam and the test results were good too. They made mistakes with the portion of question tags and I gave them a remedial teaching on the same topic.  I have also completed the fourth lesson 'We Are The World' which is the last and final lesson of the unit. I was able to make my students sing and dance to the song lines which was a beautiful experience for me. Thus the unit came to an end and I also completed the rest of the textual exercises during the extra hours I received.  We have completed our 5th week of school internship and like the previous weeks, this week too was a productive one. I was able to complete my target portion and by this week,  my students are all set for their coming mid term examination.
